The Honourable Peter B. Annis, a sole practitioner in Ottawa, is appointed a Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario (Ottawa) to replace Mr. Justice P. Lalonde, who elected to become a supernumerary judge as of June 4, 2010.

Mr. Justice Annis received a Bachelor of Arts (Economics and Political Sciences) in 1968 and a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from Queen's University in 1971. He also received a Doctorate from l'Université d'Aix-en Provence (LL.D.), France. He was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1974.

Mr. Justice Annis practised as a sole practitioner (2006 to present) and was Chair of the Canadian Artists and Producers Professional Relations Tribunal (2007-2008). In 2008, he was appointed by the Minister of Labour to conduct an extensive study into causes and impacts of work stoppages. He was a partner with Vincent Dagenais Gibson LLP (2002-2005), an associate and partner with Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (formerly Scott & Aylen) (1987-2001); and partner with Honeywell, Wotherspoon (1985-1986). He was the founding director of the Centre for Legal Translation and Documentation at Ottawa University (1981-1984) and a legal officer with the Department of Justice (1972-1981). His main areas of practise were civil litigation, administrative law, labor and employment law, mediation and arbitration and aboriginal law. In the latter part of his career, he focused on alternative dispute resolutions.

Mr. Justice Annis was a Trustee of the Carleton County Law Association (2005-2008), and a long time member of the Association des juristes d'expression françaises de l'Ontario (AJEFO) and le Regroupement des gens d'affaires. For many years, Mr. Justice Annis was a professor at the law faculty of University of Ottawa and an instructor at the Bar Admission Course. He is the author of a book on bilingualism in the Ontario court system.
