OTTAWA, October 18, 2000 -- The Honourable Anne McLellan, Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, today announced the following appointment:
Denis J. Power Q.C., of Ottawa is appointed a judge of the Superior Court of Justice in Ottawa. He replaces Mr. Justice K.C. Binks, who retired.
Mr. Justice Power received his LL.B. from the University of Ottawa in 1963, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1965. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Justice Power was a partner in the Ottawa firm of NelliganPower practising primarily in the areas of professional negligence law, commercial and insolvency litigation and education law. Mr. Justice Power has been active for several years as a Director and Officer of the Advocates' Society of Ontario. He is a former President of the Carleton County Law Association. In 1989, Mr. Justice Power became a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He has been a frequent participant in continuing legal education programs for the Ottawa Bar, the Advocates' Society, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Canadian Bar Association.
This appointment is effective immediately.
