In 2002, more than 66,000 children went missing in Canada, according to National Missing Children's Services. Of those, 62 per cent of all cases were solved within one day and 86 per cent of cases were solved within a week.

The majority of missing children were runaways (52,390), compared with 35 kidnaps and 429 parental abductions.
Females were more likely to go missing than males and accounted for 59 per cent of all missing kids.
