Police alert public of sex offender released in K-town

Kingston Police are warning the public about a sex offender who has been released in the community and is living in a federal penitentiary halfway house on Portsmouth Avenue.

Under the authority of the Police Services Act, Police Chief Bill Closs released information about convicted sex offender Philip Foremsky, out on statutory release from federal prison Aug. 5 after serving two-thirds of his sentence.

The alert, according to the chief, “is in the interest of community safety.”

Foremsky has been convicted of sexually assaulting and robbing women, two at knife-point near the York campus in Toronto in the summer of 2002.

Foremsky is a white male, 22 years of age, five feet, six inches tall, 126 lbs., with short dark brown hair and hazel eyes." align="right" vspace="4" border="0" width="1" height="1">

He will be residing in Kingston at a local Community Correctional Centre.



Man involved in bus accident dies

An elderly man who was riding his bike when he involved in an accident involving a bus died on the weekend.

Donald Cutts, 79, was hit on Bagot Street at Bay Street Thursday, Aug. 5.

Kingston Police say the bus was travelling south and collided with the man when it was passing a taxi.

Police say they are still trying to determine if the man hit the bus or if the bus hit the man.

The investigation continues. Any witnesses to the accident are asked to call Kingston Police at 549-4660.



Robbery at Sunbury General Store

Frontenac OPP are investigating a robbery at the Sunbury General Store in which a perpetrator struck the business owner during the getaway Sunday, Aug. 8.

The thief gained entry to the store by twisting off a lock, but tripped the alarm. The owners, Janet and Gerald Ritchie, live upstairs, and were awakened.

Mr. Ritchie went downstairs and saw a male walking toward an exit and chased him.

The suspect entered a van parked near the exit. Ritchie attempted to disable the van and was struck in the head by another person in the vehicle.

The van drove off west on Moreland Dixon Road.

Ritchie suffered a cut about his left eye and was treated and released from Kingston General Hospital.

The owner says there were three occupants in the dark, newer model minivan that had tinted windows.



Police arrest youths firing paint balls at 401 traffic

Three youths from Quebec face charges in connection with firing paint balls at traffic on Highway 401 Saturday, Aug. 7.

Frontenac OPP received complaints about paint balls being fired from a vehicle on Highway 401 near Joyceville Road.

Leeds OPP apprehended the suspects at the Reynolds Road area near Mallorytown.

Tractor trailers, cars and pedestrians in Amherstview and Kingston were among the victims of the attacks.

The youths face charges of possession of stolen property, mischief endangering life and possession of a weapon endangering the public.

Any witnesses or victims of this crime are asked to call Frontenac OPP at 372-1932.
