Hubby of slain bride on the lam

By ROB LAMBERTI, TORONTO SUN

TORONTO HOMICIDE detectives want to talk with the missing husband of a newlywed North York woman who was found murdered in their apartment. The body of Rosaura Tolentino Ramos, 26, was discovered by officers around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday after going to the couple's Finch Ave. W. apartment at Weston Rd. following up on a missing persons report.

Ramos, who arrived in Canada about a year ago from her native Dominican Republic, was reported missing by her family on Tuesday. Officers from 31 Division found her body.

The victim of the city's 43rd murder of the year and her husband, Juan Antonio Avalos, were last seen together on Sunday.

Police said the couple lived together.

Murder investigators want to speak with Avalos, 43, about the woman's slaying, but Det.-Sgt. Dan Nealon stressed the man is not a suspect.

"He's a person of interest," Nealon said, adding although the man isn't a suspect, the couple did have a tumultuous relationship.

It's not yet certain as to when Ramos was murdered after the couple was last seen, he said, and Avalos "could be anywhere."

The couple were married about six months ago and detectives last night released a photograph of the dead woman in her white gown, snapped on a day filled with promise. They have no children and Nealon doesn't believe Ramos was pregnant.

The victim was "brutally and savagely attacked," but the exact cause of death will be confirmed today by autopsy, said Nealon.

The man owns a red 1994 Dodge Caravan, Ontario plate number 889 JRS.

Anyone who sees Avalos is asked to call 416-808-7816, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
