Thank you for your email. Jim is proud to have introduced the Domestic
Violence Protection Act when he was Attorney General and pleased that it
was enacted. Jim believes that the Act is an excellent way to protect
and support victims of domestic violence and to hold abusers accountable.
The Act sends a clear signal that domestic violence is not tolerated in
Ontario. When it is proclaimed, the Act will help families at risk and
vistims of domestic violence to get a court order at any time of the day
or night. It will make intervention orders faster to obtain and easier
to enforce. It will also make them applicable to a broader range of
people, such as boyfriends and live-in family members.
