Prince Albert, Sask. — Criminal charges have been laid in the high-profile case of a baby boy who was born in a Wal-Mart bathroom in May and left in the toilet.

A 21-year-old female, believed to be the boy's mother, has been charged with child abandonment. She will be in custody until her first court appearance on Sept. 13.

The child is now in the care of social services.

Prince Albert Police Inspector Howard Georgeson said the investigation took three months because it involved several agencies.
