A woman living near the Ellwood area was sexually assaulted on Wednesday afternoon by a man who knocked on her door and claimed to be a police officer, Ottawa police said. Police said the woman was at her Heatherington Road home with her young child when a man knocked on her door at about 1:30 p.m. and claimed to be a police officer. The woman told police she opened the door and was sexually assaulted at knifepoint. She sustained minor injuries, while her child was uninjured, police said. The woman described the man as possibly being of South Asian descent, 20 to 30 years old with a medium build and unshaven hair on his chin. He had dark brown brush-cut styled hair. The man spoke English and wore a black T-shirt and baggy jeans. Anyone with information is asked to call acting Sgt. Gina Rosa at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944 or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477

Commentary,

This is one of those rare cases of a sexual assault by a stranger. Heatherington Road is one a really bad area, with 3 major high rises and thousands of town homes with a very large number of the residents on social assistance. It has a host of drug dealers and screwed up mentally ill people and the suspect described could be anyone of a very large number of people in that area. Odds are that this "man" is already well known for his mental health and or extreme violence. Odds are he already has a record. Lets hope the Ottawa Police catch him before he does it again. Interestingly, it sounds as though it might be connected to the assault at Carleton University. If there are any more assaults in that Heatherington Road area, maybe its time for some very good video cameras to be installed. Right now, there are practically none in the area apart from all the high rise entrances.

Detective Gina Rosa is famous in Ottawa, generally for her involvement in domestic assaults many of which result in innocent men being charged when they were assaulted by their wives. In Ottawa it really does not make much difference what the evidence is, the "Partner Assault Squad" have guidelines that make it almost impossible for them not to charge a man when called to a 911 call. Its estimated that only 10% of charges result in charges against men when in fact around 50% were assaults by women against men. What  is not recorded is the incredible number of men who suffer continuous physical and psychological abuse only to be arrested when they call 911.
