A man who fell out an Ottawa hospital window while under police guard has died.

Carlos Alcantara-Gomez, 32, succumbed to his injuries Thursday morning, said a news release from Ontario's Special Investigations Unit. The unit is looking into the circumstances surrounding Alcantara-Gomez's fall from a second-floor window on Wednesday.

He was in hospital to be treated for back injuries he sustained when a police car struck him on Tuesday. Police were pursuing him as a suspect in a break-in at a bank on Rideau Street when the collision occurred.

That incident is also under investigation by the SIU, a provincial agency that looks into cases of serious injury and death involving the police.
