An Ontario Provincial Police officer with the Kapuskasing detachment has been arrested and is facing several charges -- including sexual assault.
The charges come following a probe by the Special Investigations Unit.
According to a release issued by the SIU, director Ian Scott said he has reasonable grounds to believe the officer has committed criminal offences in relation to a young female.
As a result of the investigation, 31-year-old Jean-Guy Beaudet of the Kapuskasing detachment has been charged with one count of sexual assault and two counts of sexual exploitation.
The SIU was contacted by the OPP's Kapuskasing detachment earlier this month regarding the allegations against one of its officers.
The incident was assigned to two investigators as well as a forensic investigator.
Beaudet was arrested Thursday and released on a promise to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on Sept. 29 at 10 a. m. to answer to the charges.
The SIU is a civilian agency. It investigates charges involving police officers.
The director of the SIU reports the results of investigations to the Attorney General.
Because the matter is currently before the courts, Scott said the SIU is not providing further comment on its investigation.
