Three prisoners suffered minor injuries Monday morning when they fell out of a van bringing them into the Brampton courthouse.

The prisoners, who were handcuffed and hooked together inside the van, apparently fell out when one of the vehicle’s doors suddenly swung open.

They were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries, said Peel Const. Adam Minnion.

The incident at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse is now being investigated.

Police wouldn’t say how the door – which was supposed to be locked –

came open.

Minnion also wouldn’t confirm reports that several prisoners were fighting inside the van before the side door opened.

Peel police cruisers blocked the main entrance to the courthouse parking lot following the incident.

The van was transporting prisoners from the Maplehurst Detention Centre in Milton.
