Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau and Minister of Status of Women Kellie Leitch speak to reporters after announcing a new program that will encourage men to take action on ending violence against women and girls.

The federal Conservatives are granting $300,000 to an organization that encourages men to take action on ending violence against women and girls.

The White Ribbon Campaign is putting the funds towards a 36-month project that will culminate in an online toolkit to engage men and boys in ending this type of violence.

Minister of Status of Women Kellie Leitch said it’s about supporting victims and encouraging the community to act.

We, as Canadians, have been sweeping this under the carpet,” she said while at the Ottawa police headquarters on Friday morning. “It is now time for people to come forward and make sure that we’re addressing it. That means that people have to come forward, but it also means we have to be accepting of that.”

The announcement was made during the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence – and in the midst of a huge media discussion on sexual assault.

Former CBC Q radio host Jian Ghomeshi was charged with sexual assault this week. Two Liberal MPs have also been accused of sexual assault. Then, of course, there’s Bill Cosby.

There have been criticisms that the justice system does little to help victims of sexual assault

One in three women experience sexual assault, but some statistics say 90 per cent of those women do not report to police.

Ottawa Police Chief Charles Bordeleau said there are many factors around that, but the police take these cases very seriously.

“Our officers do a great job in ensuring that the case they present to the Crown for prosecution is the best that they can do,” he said. “We’re very aware of issues of underreporting crime and we want to encourage women that are victims of violence against them to come to the police service.”

The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence runs Nov. 25 to Dec. 10.

The Federal Government has just escalated Ontario's Promotion of Violence towards men by women.

The Ottawa Police habitually Fabricate evidence NOT to charge violent women and to charge Male victims of domestic violence simply to engage in Money Laundering of tax payers dollars to fund an illegal Fascist Agenda of promoting violence against fathers.

Low life Rotten cops like Det. Van Der Zander personally Fabricate Evidence NOT to charge violent women to take children from full time fathers and place with the most violent of mothers.

Our Police Chief turns a deliberate blind eye and effectively runs one of Ontario's largest Criminal Organizations.
