HALIFAX – People marched to the office of Dalhousie University’s president
Friday to demand the school expel dentistry students accused of posting
misogynistic messages online about their female peers.
The group of about
200 gathered in front of the dentistry school in Halifax to read speeches
panning the university’s response to comments posted on Facebook about
female students in the faculty.
Jordan Roberts, who helped organize the protest, said Dalhousie
University should have expelled the male students who were members of the
Facebook group where the comments were posted, rather than opt for a
restorative justice process.
“I think it’s appalling that Dalhousie would still give accreditation to
these male students when they have said the kinds of things they would do
with that kind of power,” she said.
“I think expulsion is the answer.”
The school is coming under increasing scrutiny and criticism after
announcing Wednesday that it had launched the process as a means of dealing
with the sexist postings.
University president Richard Florizone said in an emotional news
conference at the time that some of the women have chosen the restorative
justice process, which is an informal and confidential resolution procedure
that includes the parties involved.
He said the 13 men who were members of the Facebook group are fourth-year
dentistry students and will participate, adding that some have expressed
regret in correspondence to him.
Florizone said the process is intended to explore the impacts of the
comments and address accountability, adding that its outcome may be made
public depending on the wishes of those involved.
But he said not all of the women affected have said they will participate
in the process and it’s still possible one or more could launch a formal
complaint procedure that could go to the university senate disciplinary
committee.
Some are questioning whether Dalhousie University is using the most
suitable process for this type of offence.
Wayne MacKay, a law professor at the university and expert on
cyberbullying, said the school needs to pay close attention to whether the
parties involved are satisfied with the process while avoiding
re-victimizing the women.
MacKay said he supports restorative justice in some cases, but there have
been instances in the United States where it has not satisfied complainants.
“It does give them a lot of control … in terms of how they handle the
process, but with that control comes a lot of pressure and in some ways the
potential for revictimization,” he said.
“The message has to be clearly sent that this is taken seriously that
this kind of conduct is not acceptable and will not be tolerated and
whatever process they’re using, that message has to be out there.”
Adsum House, a Halifax homeless shelter for women and children, said
restorative justice does not go far enough in sending the message that there
is no tolerance for misogyny and sexism.
“Anything less than expulsion is reprehensible,” it said in a statement.
Some faculty members also issued a statement Friday asking for a
third-party investigation into the matter.
A spokesman for Dalhousie did not respond to a request for an interview
Friday.
According to the CBC, members of the Class of DDS Gentleman page on
Facebook voted on which woman they’d like to have “hate” sex with and joked
about using chloroform on women.
In another post, a woman is shown in a bikini with a caption that says,
“Bang until stress is relieved or unconscious (girl).”
The page has since been taken down.
Florizone said if the people involved in the restorative justice process
don’t participate in good faith, a more formal complaint process will go
ahead involving an investigator that could be referred to the university
senate disciplinary committee.
In the university’s students’ code of conduct, penalties for violating
set behavioural expectations range from a warning to a suspension or
expulsion.
The university has postponed fourth-year dentistry school exams until
January.
The Ottawa Police have their own "Restorative Justice" program.
.
They simply Fabricate Evidence NOT to charge Violent Dentistry Students and to
engage in malicious prosecutions of Male Victims of domestic Violence.
.
A classic example is that of Ottawa Police Detective Peter Van Der Zander who
fabricated Evidence NOT to charge a Dentistry Student for attempting to strangle
to death the father of their children.
.
The attending officers and a witness noted that the father was bleeding around
the neck with scratch marks around his neck, consistent with an attempt to
strangle.
.
His bruises were rather a spectacular colour of blue and purple with circles
indicating finger pressure.
.
The Father described that after years of habitual unprovoked violence towards
the children and father, that he was forced to call police because she had
forced his head on to a couch by pulling his hair, and had placed a strangle
hold around his neck that prevented him from breathing.
Detective Van Der Zander also listened to a stereo audio recording of the entire
event that was stopped after the police arrived and taken by the police so it
could not have been "edited".
.
Van Der Zander Fabricated an Occurrence report that the Female Dentistry Student
"denied pulling his hair and attempting to choke him".
.
Van Der Zander expressed a concern that IF he let her go without charges that
"next time" she might kill him with a knife" so he released her so she could
"call police" next time.
.
He sent her home with a "victim support" person, a free taxi reserved by the
Ottawa Police for women who attempt to strangle the full time fathers of their
children.
.
The Video Recording of Van Der Zander's Interview showed that Van Der Zander
never asked her if she "pulled his hair and attempted to choke him".
.
His occurrence report
claimed her assaults were"a reflex action" however not one of the several
claimed expressions that Van Der Zander Claimed he "heard" on the recording did
in fact exist. His report was obviously Fabricated to justify his Obstruct
Justice and Fabrication of Evidence.
.
He then kept the father incarcerated for a further 16 hours and AFTER he
released the mother, he finally interviewed the father, failed to photograph any
of his injuries and interrogated him accusing him of being a pedophile without
any such allegation or evidence to justify that terrorism.
.
Several months later she assaulted her new male partner with a Strangle Hold to
the neck, "with her hands around his neck and her thumbs intertwined around his
neck" saying " My Father was KBG, I know what I am doing".
.
When that male reported the assault to Ottawa Police they did absolutely
nothing. When she learned of his statement, she threatened him with false
allegations which was in turn reported to the Ottawa Police who did absolutely
nothing.
.
The Ottawa Police however did ask the Father what he wanted. He said he wanted
her to get a psychiatric assessment and if she did he would support withdrawal
of the charges. A Detective then chose just one day of audio recordings, medical
reports, photographs taken by doctors and charged her with "threatening Death
and a single charge of assault" for some 55 assaults including assaults using
weapons that all occurred on just one day.
.
.
Those charges were screened and approved by a Crown Attorney however days later,
a Corrupt Ottawa Crown Attorney TARA DOBEC STAYED the charges claiming
insufficient evidence.
One only needs to look at the charges against Jian Ghomeshi based on only a "She
said" for decades old offences and you get an idea of how the Ottawa Police very
effectively promote Domestic Violence including murder attempts by women against
men.
If you are a violent woman needed a copy to Fabricate evidence NOT to charge
you, give Det. Van Der Zander a call.
